Dedicated National Ethernet

National Ethernet circuits provide aggregated connectivity between customer end user sites and their network “hubs”, whether they be datacentres, service provider pops, BT exchanges or simply an enterprise head office. As a fibre based layer 2 Ethernet service it is a high quality, dependable and low cost method to connect sites ready for customers to overlay an IP based service such as VPN, Internet, Cloud connectivity or Unified comms.

On-net National Ethernet provides a full fibre access circuit between the customer site and a VMB point of presence with dedicated fibre for uncontended bandwidth and upgrade capability to a full 10Gbps. VMB’s MPLS network provides an Ethernet Virtual Connection (EVC) between the access circuit and a customer interconnect point with a choice of handover options such as 10Gbps & 100Gbps External Network to Network Interface (E-NNI).

Our connectivity is extended using local fibre options from Openreach as well as National connectivity options from BT Wholesale, TalkTalkBusiness and Vodafone.

EoFTTP

Ethernet over Fibre to the Premises (EoFTTP) is a business-grade Layer 2 Ethernet service delivered across our national network. Built on next-generation XGS-PON technology, EoFTTP offers a flexible and future-ready alternative to traditional Ethernet services. The core features of EoFTTP include:

Who is EoFTTP ideal for?

DIA – Dedicated Internet Access

Dedicated Internet Access (DIA) is an uncontended and dedicated connection to the internet. It means a customer has uniform upload and download speeds of up to 10Gbps, so they can expect a reliable and superior user experience.

Superior levels of internet access will enable an organisation to deliver outstanding digital services to end customers, enhancing the overall experience. It also enables organisations to embrace public cloud services and easier ways to make day to day business transactions – across their organisation, business partners, and customers – more streamlined and efficient.

VMO2 Business already support 8,000 managed internet connections across the UK. This is our area of expertise. Our dedicated team of consultants can design the perfect solution for customers, from simple internet access right through to a full end-to-end network solution.

High Capacity Services

High Capacity Services is an optical connectivity service that is provided using circuits which follow fixed paths between two locations. Services can be provided using either short distance links on dedicated fibre directly between two customer locations (Dedicated HCS) or by configuring fixed paths across the VMO2 national network to connect multiple customer locations (National HCS).

Dedicated HCS is a layer one service that uses Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) technology to connect sites within 100km of each other. “Flexi Filter” is an option available with Dedicated HCS that gives the customer a single managed wavelength service over the first port and the option to attach optical equipment directly to spare filter ports.

National HCS utilises the VMO2 national network to provide connectivity that has no distance limitations. The service is delivered over an optical platform, bandwidth is guaranteed, and links follow a fixed path across the national network to ensure ultra-low latency. As standard, National HCS will be delivered using switched Ethernet technology. “National Wavelength Service” is an option whereby the Customer can choose for the service to be provided as a layer 1 wavelength service for increased transparency.

Dark Fibre

Virgin Media O2 Business provides Dark Fibre connectivity to a range of customers typically for when they are building network infrastructure for their own use. Dark Fibre provides unmanaged site to site connectivity with unlimited capacity. The customer is responsible for lighting up the fibres which has a high initial outlay for equipment and ongoing costs associated with operating and managing a service of this type, including a rateable tax charge. In all cases Dark Fibre sales require internal approval from multiple stakeholders and our preferred option is always to offer managed services for High Bandwidth services such as our High Capacity Service (HCS) product.
